July 2024 Portrait of the Month — Adam Kahane

Adam Kahane

July’s Portrait of the Month features a pensive Adam Kahane. It was drawn by a middle school student at Lantana Middle School in Lantana, Florida. Artist Cyndel S. reflected on her experience drawing Adam’s portrait:

How did it feel to spend so much time observing a photograph and then making art based on the photo?

“After looking at the photo for so long I felt like I actually knew the person.”

Write a caption for the portrait that you made. It can say something about the person or something about your feelings making the portrait.

“This is Adam Kahane. He was born in Jaslo, Poland. Around 1941, he was drafted into the Polish Army, but when he showed up, he found out that they didn't want Jewish soldiers.”

What did you like and dislike about the art experience?

“I liked that in this art experience that I could do something I've never done before. I dislike it kinda because I couldn't tell what my picture looked like until I flipped it over.”

What do you think you will remember about this experience? Why?

“I think I will remember drawing a picture upside down because it is different.”
