March 2017 Portrait of the Month - Éva Székely

Éva Székely

Students in Budapest, Hungary participate in Memory Project workshops each year. Marcell C. from Bláthy Ottó Information Technology High School in Budapest created this beautiful portrait of Éva Székely, a Holocaust survivor and Olympic swimmer who is turning 90 this year. Marcell is an active participant in art programs organized by the Zachor Foundation for Holocaust Remembrance. He reflected on the time he spent getting to know Éva through drawing her portrait:

“From an artistic point of view, we can get to know the story of a human being through a portrait and that’s why I was glad to take part in the program.”
